Former Glory

XT 250

This iconic bike is the model ridden by Sylvester Stallone in Rambo: First Blood and the one Former Glory’s founder, Nikolaj, rode for 17,000 km through Europe. This bike is a masterpiece in every way. The engine is incredibly simple yet powerful and easy to work on. The bike weighs just around 114 kg, which makes it easy to maneuver in various terrains. It handles incredibly well both on and off-road and is quite economical in terms of fuel. It’s no wonder this is the bike that inspired our logo.

The engine is a 250cc aircooled, four stroke, single cylinder, SOHC (single overhead cam) with two valves. Pretty much the simplest engine construction there is. But this is something that just works. The engine produces 21 Hp. “Just for comparrision the 2020 model only makes 18” it has a strong and reliable 5 speed gearbox and electronic advancing ignition. Thats a pretty solid setup as it is.

This model was only produced for three years, and shortly after Yamaha released it, they issued a bulletin about the camshaft receiving too little lubrication, as the crank began to operate like a centrifuge, drawing in most of the oil at higher RPMs. This means that it’s a common problem for these bikes to wear out their camshafts and rocker arms. They require a modified restriction in the crank to function properly and avoid this issue.

If you own one of these fantastic motorcycles and are unsure whether this repair has been made, don’t hesitate to contact us, and let’s take a look at it. It’s sad to see these bikes suffer from oil starvation. After I changed the cam and made this modification, I have ridden 17,000 km on my XT, and the camshaft is still like new. Well worth it!
